DIY Rose Hip Oil: Infusing Avocado Oil

Rose hips are chock full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Their oil is amazing for your skin and hair, containing anti aging qualities for your skin and can promote hair growth. I wanted the focus of this oil to be my hair – all my curls love oil as part of my hair routine. I chose avocado as my carrier oil, it also contains a lot of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins, including E, which are all wonderful for hair health.

I have a ‘rose garden’ and every year I dead head after the first flush, however, after the second flowering I usually just leave it till I prune in winter. Well this past winter I thought it would be fun to try a DIY recipe for rose hips, which I will share with y’all.

On a bright brisk winter morning I headed out to my rose bush – trimmers in hand and basket in tow. I gather all the bright red berries.

I brought brought them into the house and trimmed and tidied them. Next I put them in my pastel and mortar to bruise them. From there I put them in my crock pot with the avocado oil (you can use a pot on top of your stove just make sure you keep the heat really low and reduce time to about 2 to 3 hours). In my crock pot I wanted to keep the heat down as low as possible so I put it on warm and left it for about 8 hours.

When it was done I strained the rose hips through a cheese cloth and used a funnel to put it back into the avocado oil bottle.

My hair loves it and when Im dry and its handy I will use it on my skin or even my face. Such a good all around oil. Now you know give it a try and feel free to let me know how it goes for you!
