Basil is delicious and I love growing it in the summer, I also like to grow from seed as it is less expensive and if you start saving seeds you can close a loop. Saving seeds means that those seeds are ready for your garden, they know your soil and they know your weather conditions. I think thats pretty clever. Here’s how I save my basil seeds
Like beans I like to let the spent flowers dry on the plant, this ensures the seeds are ready to be put away straight away without having to dry them. It also means they are mature. Inside each dried flower receptical/pod there should be about three seeds. I like to lay something out to drop the seeds on then go pop the seeds out of the pods. I then go through and take out the pieces of pods. Im not meticulous about it though. I then put them in something and label it. They are then put away for the following season.
